The Story Behind It

backphoto.png

My son is non-verbal and autistic, and watching the world struggle to connect with him is what started all of this.
I wrote Harvey’s Silent Discovery because I wanted children to see the world through his eyes and to understand that silence isn’t absence, it’s just a different kind of voice.
I created The Empathy Book Initiative because I believe if we reach children early enough, inclusion stops being something we have to teach. It just becomes who they are. Not a lesson. Not a project. Just normal.
That’s the world I’m building for him. And for every child like him.

🎨 The Butterfly Challenge
A hands-on team activity where children work together to create a beautiful butterfly — without speaking a single word. Using non-verbal prompts and communication aids, they discover exactly what Harvey’s classmates did. Printed resources and certificates included for every child.

Research shows that children who engage with inclusive stories develop greater empathy, stronger social skills and are less likely to bully their peers, with benefits that last into adulthood.
The Empathy Book Initiative puts that research into action. By placing inclusive books directly into children’s hands at the earliest opportunity, we’re not just telling stories,  we’re shaping the way a generation sees the world.
